Using EdPotential for your HoD Report

This guide will help you easily complete a HoD report using the data available on EdPotential.

Feel free to make a copy of this handy template to fill out as you go through this guide.

Analyse Faculty NCEA Results

1 How has the percentage of grades at each grade level and NCEA level changed over time in your faculty?

You can find the answer to this question on the EdPotential dashboard.

Just select the Assessment System NCEA to get started!

You can now choose Show options and select your Faculty

Click on the heading NCEA Achievement Standard

Select the 3 dots top right to show the chart menu

Select Show table

You can now take a screenshot of the chart and table

Repeat for Levels 2 and 3

Repeat for Unit Standards, if your faculty has Unit Standard results

Use the table to compare results over time

For example, in this demo school 16% of grades were at Excellence level in 2025 compared to 17.5% in the previous year.

Course Pass Rates

2. What percentage of students gained 14 or more credits in each course?

This data can be found on EdPotential in the course reports.

To see student credit counts in one course:

Go to Reporting then Course

Switch to Table view (top right)

Enter the course name in the search bar.

If your school has data on EdPotential for at least two years, select the All years report. Otherwise view the report for the most recently completed year.

Scroll down to NCEA Credit Counts Over Time

Use the filters to choose to split by ethnicity

Hover over the Overall line to view the relevant percentages.

3. What is the increase or decrease in this value from the previous year?

From the percentages found above, calculate the difference between the two years’ values e.g. 90 - 92 = -2, a decrease of 2%


​4. What percentage of Māori students gained 14 or more credits in each course?

Hover over the Māori results line to read the percentage of Māori students who gained 14 or more credits


​5. What percentage of Pasifika students gained 14 or more credits in each course?

Hover over the Pasifika results line to read the percentage of Pasifika students who gained 14 or more credits


​Course Endorsements

6. What percentage of students gained an endorsement in each course?

Go to Explore the Data

Explore the Data > Browse > NCEA > Course Endorsements > [School name] > Select the course > Endorsement > OK > choose Years of interest

In the chart menu choose Show table

Repeat for all courses in your subject

7. Compare the percentage of students gaining an endorsement in each course to previous years.

As above, choose all years

Scholarships

8. How many scholarships did your faculty gain and in what subjects?

Explore the data > Browse > NCEA > Scholarship L3 > choose Course > Grade > OK > choose Years of interest

In the chart menu choose Plot absolute and Show table

9. Compare results to previous years.

10. Comment on Course Achievement results in each course

School-based results can be viewed in your course reports

Results are broken down by class and by assessment and can be compared across genders and ethnicities.
