Viewing and comparing GPA data
EdPotential enables you to view GPA data across a range of options, including a class or specific group. You can also compare GPA results across different subjects. This article outlines how to achieve this.

If you have already run a data presentation, click clear assessment selection to begin again.
- Navigate to Explore the Data, and select the Present the data option.
- Click Browse (located underneath What do you want to plot?).
- Select your required options:
- Select the required Qualification (e.g. NCEA).
- Select the required Qualification Level (e.g. NCEA L3).
- Select the Subject of interest (e.g. Chemistry).
- Select the Overall Totals you wish to view (e.g. Chemistry GPA).
- Click Ok.
- Select the Year/s of interest (e.g. 2020 and 2021). A box and whisker plot will be generated.
- If two years are selected, results can only be compared across year selection (underneath And compare results).
To compare results between groups:
- Repeat steps 1-4 above.
- Underneath the heading Year/s of interest, choose a single year of interest (e.g. 2021).
- Select the results you would like to compare underneath the heading And compare results (e.g. by ethnicity).
- A box and whisker plot will be generated comparing the GPA of students in Level 3 English by ethnicity.
Move your cursor over the chart boxes to view full details of the samples.
How can I compare the GPA across subjects?
The following example compares Level 3 Science GPA with Level 3 Mathematics GPA in 2021.
- Navigate to the Present the data screen, and select Explore the data.
- From the Present the data screen, click Browse (located underneath What do you want to plot?)
- Select your required options:
- Select the required Qualification (e.g. NCEA)
- Select the required Qualification Level (e.g. NCEA L3)
- Select the required Subject (e.g. Science)
- Select the required Overall Totals (e.g. Science GPA).
- Click ok, but do not select a year just yet!
- Repeat steps 1-4, but for a different subject. In this example, we'll use NCEA L3 Maths.
- Underneath the heading Which year? select the required year (e.g. 2021). A chart showing two box and whisker plots will be automatically produced.
Move your cursor over the chart to view full details of that sample.
